Brenyama began as a passion project for Richard (Guitars and Vocals) and Maki (Keyboards and Vocals), aiming to inject retro rock sounds into the underground indie and rock scenes of the East Coast.
Since their first release in 2016, Brenyama has been blending a wide range of influences—from 1960s pop and garage rock to CBGB’s prime era punk rock, 80s new wave, and 90s alternative—to craft their own unique sound.
Their debut record, the power pop / garage rock influenced “Euphoria Love” was signed by Jem Records, a label renowned for working with legends like Cheap Trick, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and The Cure. Jem Records has since rejuvenated its roster to include The Bayonets (featuring Brian Ray from Paul McCartney’s band), The Anderson Council, and The Grip Weeds, all of which have inspired Brenyama’s distinctive style.
Brenyama’s second album, “Relative Dimensions,” a fusion of alternative rock and pop-punk, was recorded at GCR Studios. This opportunity arose through an invitation from Good Charamel Records, helmed by Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls fame. Robby Takac, who also organizes the Music Is Art Festival in Buffalo, NY, has welcomed Brenyama to its stage three times.
In 2020, amid the lockdowns and restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, Brenyama took the initiative to home-record a collection of garage rock tracks, such as “99 Lives” and “Go-Go Kanojo,” highlighting their 60s garage influences. The subsequent vinyl release of these tracks remains one of their best-selling releases to date.
In 2022, at the invitation of David Bash for the International Pop Overthrow Festival in Liverpool, UK, Brenyama had the distinct and honorary opportunity to grace the stage of the legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool, England.
After relocating from New Jersey to Phoenix, Arizona, Brenyama continues to captivate audiences with their latest releases. Recorded at Full Well Recording Studio, tracks like “Somebody (Just Like You)” and “Time Has Come” showcase their signature blend of 80s new wave and alternative rock-inspired sounds. These 2024 releases are already garnering acclaim as their finest work to date.
With the addition of Phil Cowan on bass, Alex Ridgeway on drums, and Kevin Cramsey on second guitar, Brenyama’s sound is bigger and better than ever. They are now poised to take on their upcoming third album with a rockin’ vengeance.
