Notes on Arizona wine

Section 3 of 3

Visiting

Going to taste, and getting home again.

1 note, 2026

These are the practical pieces, for anyone heading out to taste Arizona wine in person. They explain how a visit to a tasting room usually goes, what is poured and what it tends to cost, and how the seasons change the experience, from quiet winter weekdays to harvest in the heat.

Distances matter here. Tasting rooms in the Verde Valley sit in small clusters a short drive apart, while those around Sonoita and Willcox can be spread along miles of rural road. Anyone tasting should leave the driving to someone who is not: a designated driver, a tour or a booked ride, arranged before the day begins.

For names and places in the north of the state, see the guide to Verde Valley wineries and tasting rooms.

  1. How a Verde Valley tasting-room visit works, and what it costs

A tasting here is a paid flight of small pours, usually without a booking. The part that needs planning is the driving.
